Duncan feels self-conscious about his appearance in the weeks following his fusion with Anubis. However, his brother, Freakazoid, saves the day and all is right with the world!
Apparently Duncan is more of a nerd than Freakazoid could have imagined and is amused at the fact that his bro goes all fanboy over Dr. Who. Duncan suppresses his squee of joy as he's presented with a one-of-a-kind knitted beanie hat designed to look like the Tardis.
Erie aka Freakazette is an avid knitter in her spare time and one of her favorite things to make are beanies. Duncan loves beanies so I imagine he'll be commissioning his sister-in-law a lot from now on now that he's aware of just how talented she is.
hehe heh. I also think that now that Freakazoid is aware his brother loves Dr. Who, he's going to try and find out what other sci-fi shows and things he likes and the brothers will finally have so much more in common.
I really like the very last image (Originally, it wasn't part of the initial drawing but I threw it in there last night because it really fit the whole scene so well and I wanted to give Duncan a chance to show his appreciation)- it's a touch of bro-mance-ish but I really couldn't help myself. After having such a rocky relationship growing up, it's very touching to see the brothers getting along as adults. Duncan has so much to atone for being a bully in his youth. Once he's set aside his anger issues and actually gets to know Freakazoid, (Freak ain't all that bad)- it's even more awesome to be related to a guy who, despite their initial opposition, has gone out of his way to save Duncan's life, to make him feel wanted and loved and also providing for him, particularly by allowing him and his little girl, Morgan, to live under the same roof. Without Duncan's brother and sister-in-law and their large family of freaks and geeks, he could not have raised his daughter to become the wonderful person she's blossomed into.
As for why some of you are wondering why Duncan calls Freak "Dex", there's an older drawing I made:
Duncan realizes that following the integration of Dexter and Freakazoid, Dexter is no longer physically with him. The integration simply forced Freak and Dex to become one being. However, just because Dex can't be seen, that doesn't mean he isn't around in spirit. His little brother is still with him in the shape of Freakazoid. He wholeheartedly acknowledges that Freakazoid IS
his little brother (by blood and everything). At times, Duncan refers to him as 'Freak' for short, but more often than not, Freakazoid will always be Dexter and Duncan is pretty much the only one who calls him Dexter aside from his immediate family (Mr. and Mrs. Douglas).
